Deus Ex 3 info emerges
Written by teh DG

CVG has some details of Deus Ex 3 coverage in PC Zone, which subscribers are just getting their mitts on. At time of writing there's a collection of 'scans' here, but you'll need to grab the mag to make much sense of the text.

According to CVG, "Eidos Montreal says it's more than aware of fan reaction to controversial second game, Invisible War, and promises mistakes, such as limiting ammo types to just one, won't be repeated." Despite some favourable reviews, Invisible War was deservedly panned by PC fans of the much lauded original, which has a place in many gamer's all-time top-10.

Evidently in a hurry to contradict themselves, it's noted that there's an CoD-ish auto-heal and instead of making use of shadows there will be a MGS-ish cover system. Perhaps the combat change will be more palatable to some however, it's now based on personal skill rather than RPG game stats, though weapons will be heavily customisable.

Despite these potential controversies, the game is certainly one to watch. The concept art looks fantastic and they're getting input from the writer of the original. Perhaps it's looking into it too far, but I find it promising that a major cross-platform title is announced first as a PC game (console being "pseudo confirmed") and is coming to us first through the pages of a PC gaming magazine.

Last I heard we were to expect a mid-2009 release. There's a cinematic trailer (and not much else) on the official site.

BG2 1.2b Details
Written by Tront

More than 2 months after it was announced, and after several unfortunate delays, the big news post you were promised has finally arrived. As a result of this drawn-out process, it probably isn't going to be all new to some of you, but for most of you, it should be, and so here's the full story:

The comprehensive update you were promised initially was meant to deal with our plans for bg2 2.0b and the whole host of new features that is supposed to eventually introduce to bg2. However, we realized that no matter how keen we are on making 2.0b, it is still a very long way off, and that, with the Orange box SDK port begun by Hairy Potter, we had something much more tangible at hand.

In fact, the port was making such good progress, and combined with the new content that had become ready over the last few months, and the gameplay tweaks, bug fixes and code improvements and additions that were made in the progress of porting, we decided that this port, actually being more than a port, would warrant a release of its own.

That release will be The Battle Grounds 2 1.2b.

STEAM

Valve Software has begun to host selected mods directly on its digital distribution platform, Steam, starting from next week.

The five mods first to be hosted will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy and Zombie Panic. The mods will be available to download and play for free with any Source game and will appear on Steam users 'My Games' list.

We're excited to see MOD developers get wider recognition for the hard work they have done, and we hope to support more MOD teams in the future," commented Valve.

All the mods will be able to make use of Steamworks, a suite of publishing and development tools unveiled earlier this year, to provide stat tracking and integration with the Steam community.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has become “the fastest-selling new MMO of all time”, according to publisher EA and developer Mythic Entertainment.

Over 500,000 players have registered for the fantasy MMO across North America, Europe and the Oceanic territories since the game was launched last week.

“In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG,” said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic.

“We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life.”

Xbox Live Prepares for Major Update
Written by Tront
Wednesday, 24 September 2008 12:09

Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance for "up to 24 hours" beginning Monday, September 29 from 12:01 PST, according to Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

On his blog, he added that the maintenance is "in preparation for the new Xbox experience which will be available later this fall."

The company announced at E3 in July the "New Xbox Experience," a free update for the Xbox 360 that will add a new overall look, customizable Avatars and additional community features.

Hryb made clear that immediately following the downtime, users shouldn't expect the "New Xbox Experience" update to be live.

"When the service returns, you will not have any new features and you will not have the new Xbox experience update," he said.

LittleBigPlanet Four-player create in update

'Sam_Protagonist' wrote in the Official Playstation Forums that an already promised feature of LittleBigPlanet will be introduced via an update. As the game has already gone gold and is due for release October 24th (Europe), I suspect they have already begun working on this update.

The ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released. Offline creating with up to 4 people on one PlayStation 3 however is available right from the get go.

He then went on to say:

The next question will undoubtedly be 'when is the first update due' and right now there is no specific time set at the moment, however with the game having gone gold, the team at Media Molecule are already hard at work on content for the game after its release, with online multiplayer creating top of the list.
